John J. McElveen, DDS, MD, Pharma D attended Xavier University College of Pharmacy where he obtained a Doctorate in Pharmacy in 2007 with magna cum laude distinctions. After completion of his pharmacy training, Dr. McElveen made a transition towards the field of dentistry in the summer of 2007 where he attended Howard University College of Dentistry (HUCD). Completing his Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) with high magna cum laude distinctions in 2011, Dr. McElveen was eager to further his education in the field of medicine. He was accepted into the University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC) Medical School where he received his Doctor of Medicine degree (M.D.) in 2015.
In 2019, he completed 6 years of residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at UMKC including 24 months of postgraduate surgical training in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery. In addition, he was Chief Resident in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. During his training at UMKC, Dr. McElveen completed an additional 10 months of cosmetic surgical training at Lee Summit’s Facial Spectrum at St. Luke’s Hospital, Tulsa Surgical Arts with Dr. Angelo Cuzalina and UMKC Oculoplastic’s Surgery department with Dr. Matthew Sneigowski.
Dr. McElveen has hospital privileges throughout the DMV metropolitan area where his primary focus is surgical management of sleep apnea. He also provides surgical correction of congenital lower and midface skeletal disorders and traumatic facial reconstruction at Howard University and University of Maryland Prince George’s Hospital Center.
Dr. McElveen is a member of the International Surgical Sleep Society (ISSS), the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS), and the American Medical Association (AMA). Dr. McElveen has two beautiful kids, Bryant McElveen who participates in competitive swimming and soccer, and Sydney McElveen who participates in gymnastics and ballet.
